About this postcard
A halftone view looks down Main Street in North Adams, Massachusetts, with trolley tracks running up the center of the roadway, storefronts and awnings along the right side, and frame and brick blocks receding toward the hills beyond. The printed caption reads "MAIN STREET, NO. ADAMS, MASS." North Adams sits in the Berkshire Hills of northwestern Massachusetts, and in the early 1900s it was a mill and manufacturing town whose Main Street carried the daily traffic of workers, shoppers, and trolley cars. The Hoosac Tunnel, driven through the mountain to the east, had made the town a railroad point since the 1870s.
