About this postcard

The card shows Main Street in Houston, Texas, looking north from Preston Avenue, with streetcar tracks running down the center, a streetcar in the distance, and early automobiles, wagons, and pedestrians along the commercial blocks. The printed caption names the view "Main Street, North from Preston Avenue." By the early 1900s Main Street was Houston's principal business thoroughfare, lined with multi-story stores and offices and served by the city's streetcar system; the handwritten date 1907 places the scene in that period.
