About this postcard

The view looks north along Main Street from Preston Avenue in Houston, with streetcar tracks running down the center of the commercial blocks. A streetcar appears in the distance, and automobiles, horse-drawn wagons, and pedestrians share the street. By the early 1900s Main Street was Houston's main business thoroughfare, lined with multi-story stores and offices and served by electric streetcars. The mix of motor vehicles and wagons shows the everyday traffic of a growing city in the first decade of the twentieth century.
