About this postcard

A view down Main Street in Salt Lake City, with the multi-story Deseret News Building filling the right side of the frame and a statue on a tall pedestal standing in the roadway near the center. Horse-drawn wagons and a few pedestrians share the wide, rutted dirt street, which is lined with tall telegraph poles and bare trees. The Deseret News, founded in 1850, is Utah's oldest continuously published newspaper and was long owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; its Main Street quarters placed it at the heart of the city's commercial district in the early 20th century. The card went home to Massachusetts in December 1908, signed simply "from Papa."
