About this postcard
A view down Main Street in Salt Lake City, with the large brick Deseret News Building filling the right side of the frame and a statue on a tall pedestal standing in the roadway near the center. Horse-drawn wagons, a few pedestrians, tall telegraph poles and bare street trees line the wide, rutted dirt street. The Deseret News, founded in 1850, is Utah's oldest continuously published newspaper and was long owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; its multi-story quarters on Main Street placed it at the heart of the city's commercial district in the early 20th century.
