About this postcard
Looking down Main Street in Memphis, Tennessee, on a winter day, with a yellow streetcar approaching on tracks laid in the snowy roadway. Pedestrians and a horse-drawn wagon share the street, and commercial blocks line both sides; signs for the Hotel Gehring, Floyd's, a restaurant, and the Memphis Savings Bank are visible, with a tall white office building rising in the distance. Memphis was a busy river and cotton market in the early 1900s, and Main Street's blocks held hotels, banks, and retail firms. The scene shows a downtown commercial spine where electric streetcars, delivery wagons, and foot traffic still mixed on the same streets.
