About this postcard
The picture shows the travertine terraces of Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park, with pale pink, orange and cream mineral cascades and flat pools stepping down toward a green valley, mountains beyond, and a cluster of buildings at the right. The printed caption names the formation directly. Mammoth Hot Springs is formed by hot water rising through limestone, depositing travertine as it cools; the terraces are among the park's best-known natural features, and the buildings visible at the right belong to the Mammoth Hot Springs settlement and Fort Yellowstone area near the park's north entrance.
