Sepia real photo postcard showing a man in a suit crouching in a grassy field, one hand extended toward a light-colored dog that sits facing him. Trees and open ground fill the background. A handwritten message in the left margin tells of a very sick man whose death is expected at any time, keeping the sender from Bessie Huddleston's wedding; he sends Miss Mary his love, hopes their "pathways may cross," and calls himself a hopeless case confirmed in his old bachelorhood.

I don't think I will get away from
here between this and Xmas.
as I have a very sick man
whose death is likely to occur
at any time, and in the event
it did I would have to come
straight back. I wanted to
go to Bessie Huddleston's
wedding this week but
find it impossible. Give
Miss Mary my love and
tell her that yet our
"pathways may cross"
I think however I am
confirmed in my old
bachelorhood. A hopeless
case. I hope Ed will
have no serious trouble
Yours truly,
