About this postcard

Ten labeled desert plants fill the scene: sahuaro (as spelled on the card), ocotillo in red bloom, buck horn, barrel, pin cushion, cholla, Spanish yucca, mescal, rainbow, and prickly pear, set against reddish soil and low purple hills. The printed text on the back explains that the Southwest's cacti are peculiar to the desert region and that local brush and small trees, including palo verde, mesquite, greasewood, and sagebrush, are all fortified with thorns. Labeled desert-variety views of this kind were common Southwest souvenirs.
