Many Varieties of Cacti of the Southwest, linen postcard, circa 1940
About this postcard
A desert scene illustrating and naming ten kinds of cactus and desert plants of the American Southwest: saguaro, ocotillo in red bloom, buck horn, barrel, pin cushion, cholla, Spanish yucca, mescal, rainbow and prickly pear, set against reddish soil and low purple hills. Such labeled "varieties" cards were popular souvenirs of the desert Southwest, where the saguaro (Carnegiea gigantea) and cholla grow in the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts. The linen-finish printing and the "2A-H360" production code are typical of mid-century American view cards.
