The Mapes Hotel stands at a downtown Reno intersection, a tall red-brick building with a rounded corner, white stone base, and a balustrade with corner ornaments at the top. Cars line the street in front.
The caption calls it the newest and most luxurious of Reno's many hotels and notes that the top floor held the glass-enclosed Sky Room for dining and dancing. The Mapes opened in 1947, when Reno was a busy tourist stop and divorce destination, and the hotel became a downtown landmark before its demolition in 2000.
Glossy full-bleed chrome (Kodachrome reproduction) front with no white border; printed caption "MAPES HOTEL, RENO" plus descriptive text about the glass-enclosed Sky Room; series C916; publisher lines for Mike Roberts Studios, Berkeley 2, Calif., and "Published for W. C. Spangler News Agency, Sacramento, California." Unused divided-back card with printed "Address" heading; no postmark, no message, no address; light edge/album wear on the back.
