About this postcard
The view looks north up Market Street from Eighth Street, where trolley tracks run down the center of a wide dirt roadway. Horse-drawn wagons, buggies, and delivery carts line both curbs, and multi-story brick and stone commercial blocks flank the street. A tall building on the right carries a vertical sign for D. B. Loveman, the Chattanooga dry-goods and department store firm, with a furniture sign farther down the block. Utility poles and overhead wires cross the sky above the shop awnings. The mix of electric streetcar tracks, delivery wagons, and awnings shows a downtown commercial district in the years when trolleys and horse-drawn trade still shared the street.
