The view shows Bremen's Marktplatz, with the Rathaus on the right and ornate neighboring facades at left. The town hall's early 15th-century core was remodeled in the Weser Renaissance style in the early 17th century; with the nearby Roland statue, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The square was the civic and commercial heart of the Hanseatic city.
The sender, an old friend, teases the recipient to guess who wrote the card and expects to be back in America by March 1.
