Marshall Pass and Mount Ouray, Colorado, 1935

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

A high, open saddle at Marshall Pass, Colorado, seen across a broad basin of scattered conifers and pale, eroded slopes toward the snow-streaked summit of Mount Ouray. The pass stands at 10,856 feet and Mount Ouray at 13,956 feet. Marshall Pass, in the Sawatch Range southwest of Salida, carried the Denver and Rio Grande's narrow-gauge line over the Continental Divide from 1881 until the route was abandoned in 1955; the graded shelf in the view follows that corridor. The pass sits on the Continental Divide, the watershed between the Atlantic and Pacific.
