Marshall Pass on the Continental Divide with Mount Ouray in the distance, Colorado, circa 1935

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

A high, open mountain saddle at Marshall Pass, Colorado, seen across a broad basin of scattered conifers and pale, eroded slopes, with the snow-streaked summit of Mount Ouray rising in the distance. The card's own captions give the elevations: the pass at 10,856 feet and Mt. Ouray at 13,956 feet. Marshall Pass, in the Sawatch Range southwest of Salida, carried the narrow-gauge Denver & Rio Grande line over the Continental Divide from 1881 until the route was abandoned in 1955, and the graded shelf visible in the view follows that corridor.
