Curving and geometric paths of clipped green hedge fill the view, with a circular bed edged in white stones at the center. Tall trees and a soft pink-and-blue sky close the background. The site is identified as the Maze Garden or Japanese Puzzle Garden in Waltham, Massachusetts, a formal pleasure garden of the kind that offered strollers a puzzle-like route in the early 20th century. Waltham, west of Boston, was then a busy manufacturing city.
