Meadows and wooded hills, Big Horn Mountains, WY, 1954

About this postcard

Looking down from a high point in the Big Horn Mountains, the view takes in open meadows and wooded hills across a rolling summit plateau. A pale road, U.S. 16, winds through the green country toward layered blue ridges and a soft pink-and-blue sky. The Big Horns form a high range in north-central Wyoming, and U.S. 16 crosses them as a route between the Great Plains and the Bighorn Basin. In the 1950s this was part of a common motor trip toward Yellowstone, and the sender's note records just such a crossing, with a case of nerves before continuing on.
