About this postcard
A long neoclassical building of pale stone is shown from the corner, its facade carried on a tall colonnade of fluted columns above a rusticated base, with a street lamp and lawn in the foreground. The caption names it the Mellon Institute of Pittsburgh, the industrial-research institution endowed by Andrew W. Mellon and his brother Richard B. Mellon, whose monumental Greek Revival home in the city's Oakland district was completed in the late 1930s. The building later became part of Carnegie Mellon University's campus.
