About this postcard

The brick Memorial House at Wakefield, in Westmoreland County, Virginia, stands under a large bare tree, with dormer windows, twin chimneys, and a small lattice-sided outbuilding nearby. The site is George Washington's birthplace; he was born here in 1732. The original plantation house burned in the late 18th century, and the colonial-style Memorial House shown was built in the early 1930s by the Wakefield National Memorial Association. The birthplace became a national monument in 1930, and the site lies near Colonial Beach.
