About this postcard
A view across Memorial Plaza in St. Louis, with a bronze figure on a tall stone pedestal rising from a circular flower bed, framed by trees and formal plantings. Behind the monument stands the Civil Courts Building, its stepped tower capped by a pyramidal roof modeled on the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, while a brick-faced building with red-and-white striped awnings occupies the right side of the scene. Memorial Plaza was laid out in the 1920s as a formal mall along Market Street between the Civil Courts Building and the Soldiers' Memorial, and remains one of downtown St. Louis's principal civic spaces.
