About this postcard
The view looks across Memorial Plaza in St. Louis, with the statue of Laclede, the city's founder, on a stone pedestal in a circular flower bed in the foreground. The Civil Courts Building rises to the left, its stepped pyramid roof modeled on the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, and the Southwestern Bell Telephone Building stands at the far left. At right are part of the new Federal Building and City Hall. Memorial Plaza was laid out as a formal civic mall along Market Street, linking the city's municipal buildings and commemorating St. Louisans who served in the nation's wars.
