About this postcard

A Christmas greeting card showing a snow-laden cottage beside a calm river at sunset, with bare and russet-leaved trees behind a rustic fence and a small empty rowboat moored in the foreground water. The lettering "Merry Christmas" is set in blue and red with flourishes, the initial C enclosed in a gold-embossed shield. Such tinted, embossed greetings were typical of the golden age of the Christmas postcard in the first decade of the 1900s, when millions were exchanged annually in the United States and Europe.
