About this postcard
The view looks across the wide, shallow bowl of Meteor Crater from its rim, with the flat, pale expanse of the surrounding Colorado Plateau stretching to the horizon. Printed caption names it simply as "Meteor Crater between Flagstaff and Winslow, Arizona." Also known as Barringer Crater, it lies in northern Arizona near Winslow and was the first impact crater on Earth to be positively identified as such, after mining engineer Daniel Moreau Barringer argued for a meteoritic origin in the early 1900s. The site became a well-known tourist stop on the transcontinental highway through northern Arizona.
