About this postcard
A panoramic view across the broad lawns and tree-lined drives of the Midway Plaisance toward the long row of red-roofed Gothic dormitories and quadrangles of the University of Chicago. The Midway was laid out as the mile-long pleasure ground of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, and after the fair it became a landscaped park separating the university's campus from the surrounding Hyde Park neighborhood. The collegiate Gothic buildings seen here, including the tower of the Reynolds Club area, were largely built in the first decade of the twentieth century.
