A tinted view of the mill dam at Deer Isle, Maine, where a road and rail-like fence cross the impounded water; a white clapboard mill or store building and a larger brown wooden building with an exterior stair stand among trees, with a schooner's masts visible at right and an American flag flying at far left. Deer Isle, in Penobscot Bay, was long a center of granite quarrying, fishing and small coastal milling, and views like this were typical souvenir cards of the early 20th century.
White border along the bottom carrying the printed caption; handwritten message in ink on the front; light edge and corner wear, small surface specks.
Postmark: DEER ISLE AUG 9 7-AM 1906 MASS. (second, purple oval: DIRIGO ISLE AUG 8 10AM 1906 MAINE). Undivided back with "This side for the Address only."; green Litho-Chrome imprint, 1¢ Franklin stamp; light edge wear and a few foxing spots.
