About this postcard

Mill Mountain rises above the Roanoke valley, its slopes wooded and its summit marked by a small tower. Open fields, fences, and a few scattered buildings fill the foreground. The mountain overlooks downtown Roanoke and was a popular excursion spot in the early 20th century. The city's illuminated star was added to the summit in 1949, decades after this card was printed.
