About this postcard

A tinted view of Mill Mountain rising above the Roanoke valley, its slopes wooded and its summit crowned by a small tower, with open fields, fences and a few scattered buildings in the foreground. Mill Mountain overlooks downtown Roanoke and was a favored excursion spot in the early 20th century; the summit later became home to the city's famous illuminated star, erected in 1949, long after this card was printed.
