Mill on the Androscoggin River below the White Mountains, New Hampshire, circa 1910

About this postcard

A color lithograph view looks down the Androscoggin River toward a large industrial plant with tall smokestacks, a water tower and a smokestack plume, framed by a truss bridge at left and snow-streaked peaks of the White Mountains in the distance. The card's own caption names the river and range; the mill resembles the pulp and paper works that made the Androscoggin valley around Berlin, New Hampshire, an industrial center in the early 20th century. The scene contrasts the forested riverbanks and mountain backdrop with the smoke of the factory.
