Minot's Ledge Light, Boston Harbor, Massachusetts, circa 1910

About this postcard

A tall conical granite lighthouse rises from open water, its lantern room and gallery railing silhouetted against a pale sky with a few gulls; the tower's lower half is stained dark by surf and weather. Printed in red across the top is the card's own naming, "Minot Ledge Light, Boston Harbor." Minot's Ledge Light stands on the Cohasset rocks off Scituate and Cohasset, marking the hazardous approach to Boston Harbor; the present granite tower, the second on the site, was completed in 1860 after the earlier iron-pile light was destroyed in the great storm of April 1851.
