Minot's Ledge Light, Massachusetts Bay, Massachusetts, circa 1910

About this postcard

The card shows the granite tower of Minot's Ledge Light standing alone in open water, its lantern room and gallery ringed by a railing and a small landing platform projecting from the upper section. The light marks the dangerous Minot's Ledge rocks off Cohasset and Scituate in Massachusetts Bay; the present granite tower, designed by Barton S. Alexander, was completed in 1860 after the earlier iron-pile lighthouse was destroyed in a storm in 1851 with the loss of its keepers. It remains an active aid to navigation and is famed for its wave-swept setting.
