Minute Man statue, Concord, Massachusetts, 1903

About this postcard

A halftone view of the Minute Man statue standing on its granite pedestal, rifle in hand and plow at his side, with trees and open ground behind. The bronze figure, sculpted by Daniel Chester French, was dedicated in 1875 on the bank of the Concord River at the Old North Bridge to commemorate the Concord minutemen who fought there on April 19, 1775. The pedestal bears the opening stanza of Ralph Waldo Emerson's 1837 "Concord Hymn."
