A wooden cross on a stone base and a mission bell hung from a timber frame stand on the rocky summit of Mount Rubidoux, looking out over the city of Riverside and the Santa Ana River valley toward hazy mountains. The Serra Cross was erected on the peak in 1907 to honor Father Junípero Serra, and the bell is rung for the Easter sunrise service that has been held on the mountain since 1909. Mount Rubidoux itself became a Riverside city park and a noted landmark for its trails and panoramic views.
