About this postcard

The view shows the front facade of Mission Dolores, with its low gabled roof, arched entrance, balcony, and cross above the gable, framed by a palm and a small tree. Founded in 1776 by Father Francisco Palóu, it is the oldest surviving building in San Francisco and the sixth of the Spanish missions in California. The present adobe church was completed in 1791 and survived the 1906 earthquake and fire. Its small cemetery beside the church holds early Californio settlers and Ohlone converts.
