The card shows the twin-towered white facade of Mission Santa Barbara, with its red tile roofs, arched convento arcade, and a stone fountain in the forecourt, a brown-robed friar walking across the plaza. Founded in 1786 by Father Fermín Lasuén, it is the tenth of the California missions and the only one still occupied by Franciscan friars, earning it the name "Queen of the Missions." The present church, with its distinctive twin bell towers, was rebuilt after the 1925 earthquake and rededicated in 1927.
