About this postcard
An elevated, tinted view looks down over Mission Valley, where the San Diego River meanders in broad loops across flat green bottomland toward a range of hazy purple-brown hills and mountains on the horizon. Scattered white farm buildings, fences and rows of trees dot the valley floor, with a tall narrow structure and a long trestle-like line visible at right. Mission Valley takes its name from the Spanish mission of San Diego de Alcalá, founded in 1769 and moved to this valley in 1774; in the early 20th century the valley was still largely farmland and dairy country before later urban development.
