A white roadside diner with red horizontal striping and large windows sits on a concrete pad beneath a tall tree. A pylon sign at the left corner reads "MONARCH DINER" and "AIR CONDITIONED." Monarch Diners, Inc. served travelers on Route 20 in Waltham, Massachusetts, and Route 16 in Dover, New Hampshire. Air conditioning was a selling point for roadside restaurants in the 1940s and 1950s, when auto travel and highway-oriented diners drew steady local and passing trade.
Linen-textured stock with visible cross-hatch grain; thin white border at edges; light corner/edge wear.
No postmark, stamp, or handwriting on back; the back carries only the printed "POST CARD" heading and "PLACE STAMP HERE" stamp box. Divided-back linen-era advertising card (c. 1940s-50s) for Monarch Diners, Inc.; printed imprint of New England Advertising, Newton 61, Mass.; card no. 83434. Slight foxing/soiling on the unused address side.
