The Monkey House and its artificial rock mountain at Walbridge Park in Toledo, with monkeys clambering over the craggy, grotto-like formation and a pool at its base. Walbridge Park, laid out along the Maumee River, was one of Toledo's first large public parks and housed the city's early zoo. Grotto-style monkey exhibits were common in American parks and zoos in the early twentieth century, and this one was a popular attraction in the park.
