About this postcard

The view looks across the Ohio River at the Montgomery Government Lock and Dam, a long line of concrete piers and spillway gates with a truss-and-roadway deck above the crest. Water passes through the dam below a wooded hillside. The caption names it the Montgomery Government Lock and Dam, the federal navigation dam often called Montgomery Island Dam. It was part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' 1930s works on the Ohio, which maintained a nine-foot channel for barges and river traffic. The dam stood in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, downstream from Pittsburgh.
