An elevated view looks down over Montreal from the lookout, with horse-drawn carriages and scattered figures in the foreground. City buildings and rooftops spread below, and the St. Lawrence River with a bridge lies in the distance. In the early 20th century, Montreal was Canada's largest city and a busy port, and horse-drawn vehicles still shared the streets with streetcars and early automobiles.
