About this postcard
A night view of the summit of Pikes Peak under a full moon, with the summit house and its rooftop observation tower lit from within, a red cog railway car standing at the right, and a few figures gathered on the rocky ground beside the track. The card's caption names the scene and gives the summit's elevation as 14,147 feet. Pikes Peak, rising above Colorado Springs, was reached in 1891 by the Manitou & Pikes Peak Cog Railway, whose cars and summit house appear in many early postcards; the summit house and tower were a standard stop for tourists arriving by rail.
