About this postcard
A full moon breaks through streaked clouds over the Atlantic, laying a bright path across breaking surf and dark, rolling waves. The view is identified as "Moonlight on the Atlantic" at Wildwood by the Sea, N.J., a Jersey Shore resort town. The high-contrast night effect makes the moon and its reflection stand out against the water, a dramatic image of the shore after dark. Moonlight marine views were a popular postcard subject, and Wildwood's beaches and boardwalk drew summer visitors by the mid-twentieth century.
