About this postcard
The card shows the Mormon Battalion Monument, a tall granite shaft bearing a bronze relief of marching volunteers and a standing figure, set on stepped terraces with a reflecting pool and flower beds in the Utah State Capitol grounds. The monument, dedicated in 1927, commemorates the roughly 500 Latter-day Saint volunteers who marched from Council Bluffs, Iowa, to California in 1846–47 to serve in the Mexican War, the longest infantry march in U.S. military history. The Wasatch Range foothills and capitol-area buildings appear behind the trees.
