About this postcard
The vast oval roof of the Mormon Tabernacle dominates the view, with the temple block's trees and the Sea Gull Monument column in the foreground and the Wasatch foothills rising behind. The Salt Lake Tabernacle, completed in 1867 on Temple Square, was built of timber lattice and plaster to seat several thousand people and is famed for its nearly perfect acoustics and its long-serving pipe organ. The monument in the foreground commemorates the seagulls that, according to Latter-day Saint tradition, devoured a cricket plague threatening the pioneers' 1848 crops.
