About this postcard

The photograph shows the Morrison-Reeves Library in Richmond, Indiana, a rough-faced stone building in a Romanesque manner. Three round-arched entrance bays stand at ground level, with a row of windows above and a round corner tower capped by a conical roof. Bare winter trees, a lamp post, and an iron fence line the sidewalk in front. The sender calls it "our Public library," a plain mark of local pride in an institution founded with the Morrison and Reeves family bequests. The rough stone, rounded arches, and corner tower are characteristic of Romanesque Revival civic buildings of the period, and Richmond was a busy railroad and manufacturing town in the early 1900s. The library still serves the city today.
