About this postcard
A black bear and her cub are shown clambering up a rocky, brush-covered slope, the mother in the foreground with the cub behind her to the right. The card is captioned "Mother Bear and Cub Hiking" and was issued by Haynes Inc. of Yellowstone Park, Wyoming, the photographic studio long associated with concession-era views of the park. Black bears were a celebrated — and later discouraged — roadside attraction in Yellowstone, where visitors fed them along the Grand Loop Road in the early twentieth century.
