About this postcard

A snow-streaked volcanic cone rises above dark conifer forest and is mirrored in the still water of Mirror Lake, with a small boat visible near the far shore. The printed caption gives the peak as Mt. Adams at 12,307 feet and calls it the second highest peak in the Cascade Range, a claim that held for Washington's summits behind Mount Rainier. Mount Adams is a stratovolcano in southwestern Washington, named for President John Adams and standing within the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Mirror Lake, a shallow pool in the same forest, was a standard stop for travelers touring the volcano country, and its reflection of the mountain made it one of the range's most photographed prospects.
