About this postcard

The east face of Mount of the Holy Cross rises in dark rock, split by a cross-shaped snow couloir that stands out white against the stone. The peak sits in the Sawatch Range of central Colorado at just over 14,000 feet, and its cross of snow became a national curiosity after William Henry Jackson photographed it in 1873. Tourists and pilgrims traveled to the mountain for decades to see the formation, which shifts with each season's snowpack.
