Black-and-white view across a desert flat toward the rugged, snow-dusted peaks of Mount San Jacinto, with a band of pale sand or dry wash at mid-ground. Sparse desert scrub and a blooming ocotillo stand in the foreground beneath a partly cloudy sky.

Dearest Mae: You just received a card I was to start. My
brother in law [illegible] of San Francisco died last night so
things has been mixed up here today. She has just left tonight
for S.F. Suppose Rob all are in the [illegible] but visit together

go to Mrs Taringo. She is having a Wedding tea for me Sat when
I may have to speak! On Mon the 7th, wrote promising she & her
husband will drive me to S.F. via the Yosemite & Carmel as we
about need there the 10. I have I will be 4 days there & get back
here on the 15th. I think I should leave that night for Seattle.
I appreciate you wanting me to stay, but there are lots of
reasons I want to get home. Molly will be with her mother in S.F
a great deal next & I will have done all the trips minus
