About this postcard

The east front of George Washington's Mount Vernon mansion, a white house with a long colonnade, cupola, and chimney set on a grassy lawn among large trees. Rocking chairs on the porch and a small outbuilding and arched structure to the right show the estate as a historic site prepared for visitors. The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association had cared for the plantation home since the 1850s, and by the 1940s it was a well-established destination for travelers touring Washington and the surrounding region.
