The east front of Mount Vernon, George Washington's mansion, fills the view: a long colonnaded piazza with a white balustrade, a cupola and red brick chimneys above, and a green lawn with trees at the left. The house faces the Potomac River on the Virginia plantation that Washington expanded in the 18th century. By the early 1900s Mount Vernon was a well-known historic site maintained by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, and its familiar riverfront facade was a common subject for postcards.
White border along bottom edge; large irregular piece missing at lower right with staining and surface loss; undivided-back stock.
No postmark, stamp, or address — back is blank except dealer pencil price marks ("112", "2.00") at top left. Undivided back ("This side is for the address."), early 1900s German-printed card (Pub. by Lewis Freirick, Washington, D. C.; made in Germany); heavy foxing/toning and a large surface tear on the front lower right.
